Abstract

In this work, the potential use of clay and a new sorbent organo silicon compound (O.S.C.) for the removal of the organic matter and iron respectively from phosphoric acid medium by adsorption has been investigated using batch technique. The experimental results obtained were calculated for two isotherms. The clay and O.S.C. were found to remove efficiently the organic matter and iron respectively from the crude phosphoric acid. Also uranium has been extracted from phosphoric acid using solvent extraction. The organic solvents used were tri-n-octyl amine (TOA), tri octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO), tris (2-ethyl hexyl) phosphate (TEP) and methyl iso butyl ketone (MIBK) where these solvents used alone or in a synergistic system with each other in a suitable diluent. The factors affecting the extraction and the uptake of uranium were investigated. The results are used to assess the conditions for maximum removal and separation of organic matter, iron and uranium form phosphoric acid. Also striping of uranium from the organic phase by using different strippers were investigated.
