Abstract

This research conducted that approximately fifty percent of staff nurses were worked fifty or more per week, also the high number of them were work no limited paid overtime time hours each week , additionally more fifty percent of them were worked unpaid overtime.
Also more than two thirds of the staff nurses are high exposure to physical hazards, while one third of them are low exposure to physical hazards, moreover more than fifty percent of the staff nurses were high exposure to chemical hazards, while little than fifty percent of them were low exposure to chemical hazards. Also more than fifty percent of the staff nurses were high exposure to biological hazards, while little than fifty percent were low exposure to biological hazards.
Also this research showed that more than half of the staff nurses were high exposure to psycho-social hazards, while the less than half of them are low exposure to psycho-social hazards, in addition the majority of the staff nurses were high exposure to organic and inorganic disorders, while the minority of them are low exposure to organic and inorganic disorders, finally the staff nurses were high exposure to total hazards, while the minority of them are low exposure to total hazards.
Last not least, there were positive correlations between health hazards and (the number of working hours you work each week as well as the number of overtime hours you work each week).
Recommendations
According the current finds of this research, the following recommendations were inferred:
o Offer sufficient information about workplace safety policies, procedures, and hazards related to occupational health and safety.
o Provide an example of any hospital policy addressing occupational hazards.
o Offer training on any topic pertaining to workplace occupational hazards
o Offering precise job descriptions, flexible work hours, equitable treatment, and frequent meetings between staff nurses and supervisors to address any occupational hazards and resolve issues.
o Allow the availability of all laws and regulations pertaining to workplace safety
o Implemented programs and policies by hospital authority for healthcare workers’ occupational health and safety.
o Created policies that lessen the strain of working shifts. These might include limiting the number of hours worked during the night shift, lengthening the break period in between shifts, offering sufficient meal breaks, and allocating weekend and holiday work equitably.
o Participating in training programs for supervisors, managers, and nurses regarding the various types and effects of workplace hazards, which should be taken into account in any program addressing occupational health and safety issues.
o Provide psychological counseling and therapy should be readily available for employees who are experiencing difficulties.
o Monitor and encourage the staff nurses to wear personal protective equipment.
o Give meals to the staff nurses during the day work
o Encourage the staff nurse to participate in the work of their time schedule.
o Providing transportation for the employee by the hospital to save the time and effort of the employee and enhance their satisfaction
o Providing nursery school for the employee’s child by the hospital to save the time and effort of the employee and enhance their satisfaction
o Made frequent check for the employee in the hospital and provide continuous immunizations and vaccinations to the employee to maintain their health
o Encourage nurses to complain with written protocols of occupational health hazards
o Encourage nurses to update their knowledge and skills about occupational health hazards
o Carry out additional research to identify the variables that predispose healthcare workers to occupational hazards.
