Abstract

Esthetics of the primary anterior teeth with ECC has been a major challenge for pediatric dentists. The demand for beautiful smiles is growing among children as much as adults. However, the requests of children and their parents have improved esthetic solutions. Various esthetic full coverage restorations have been attempted over the years in restoring primary teeth. recently zirconia crown has created a new approach for restoring the natural appearance of child’s teeth. The aim of the present study was to assess and compare the clinical and radiographic evaluation of two zirconia crowns (kinder Krowns and Nusmile crowns) in restoring carious primary canines. The study included twenty-five children of both sexes aged from 7-10 years old who were selected from the outpatient clinic of the Pediatric Dentistry Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Tanta University. Each child was diagnosed with two untreated deep carious bilateral upper primary canines indicated for pulp therapy and full coverage restorations. The teeth were divided into two groups (twenty-five teeth for each group). group Ⅰ treated and restored with “Kinder Krown” (intervention group). group Ⅱ treated and restored with NuSmile (control group). Clinical evaluations were recorded after 1,3,6,9 and 12-months followup intervals. And data recorded include: The crown’s retention, opposing tooth wear, gingival health, immediate color match, gingival index, crown margin and child/ parent satisfaction. Radiographic evaluation was performed by periapical digital radiographic x-ray using paralleling technique. And recorded after procedure, 6 and 12-months follow-up intervals. And data recorded include crown margins and absence of pathological internal or external root resorption, or periapical radiolucency. At the end of this study, there was no statistically significant differences observed in clinical evaluations and radiographic evaluations between kinder and Nusmile zirconia crowns. And both groups were retentive, minimal opposing tooth wear, gingivally compatible and finally both were accepted by parents and their children.
