Abstract

The present study was carried out during spring seasons, of 2019
and 2020 at a special apiary in Al-Kom Al-Akhdar, Shebin Al-Kom,
Menoufia Governorate, to study modern methods of breeding honey bee
colonies in order to reach the optimal methods for beekeeping by
comparing the type of hives, whether by horizontal expansion that the
colony contains two queens, including a horizontal queen barrier or
Vertical that colonies contain two queens with a vertical barrier between
them, or Kenyan hive (with circular frames) and the number of 15 frames
or foam hives (made of foam), compared to the Langstroth wooden
Langstroth colonies with ten frames and the extent of their impact on the
productivity of queens from brood areas and other bee products.
The important results was as follows:
I- Effect of hive type on the production of Egyptian honeybee
honeybee strain
1. The mean production of brood area raged from 110.97±20.37 (inch2)
for Kenyan hive to 48.39±5.83 (inch2) for horizontal hive, with highly
significant differences.
2. The honey production ranged from Kenyan hive was 9467±433.33 gr,
to langstroth hive with 4317±187.82 gr, with highly significant
differences.
3. The mean production of clover pollen ranged from 1630.47±685.61
cm for vertical hive to 821.19±49.12 cm for both of horizontal and
Kenyan hive, and there were non significant differences
4. The maize pollen production ranged from 1287.93±107.32 to
920.30±53.40 cm for vertical and foam, respectively. There were non
significant differences5. There were non significant differences between five hives conditional
rearing hives for Egyptian honeybee strain.
6. The mean queen ovary weight for Egyptian honeybee strain ranged
from 0.0044±0.000176 g for vertical hive to 0.0037±0.000291 g for
foam hive.
7. The mean worker wax mirror length (mm) for Egyptian honeybee
strain ranged from 3.021±0.091 (mm) for both of horizontal and
Kenyan hives to 2.896±0.042 (mm) for foam hive. There were non
significant differences.
8. The worker wax mirror width (mm) for Egyptian honeybee strain
ranged from Kenyan hive was 1.729±0.042 mm to vertical hives with
1.667±0.021 mm, there were non significant differences.
9. Worker wax mirror diameter (mm) for Egyptian honeybee strain
ranged from foam hive was 0.396±0.055 mm to Langstroth hive with
0.313±0.036 mm, there non significant differences
II- Effect of hive type on the production of Italian honeybee honeybee
strain
1. The mean production of brood area (inch2) for Italian honeybee strain
ranged from 160.67±29.50 (inch2) for Kenyan hive to 42.28±0.60
(inch2) for horizontal hive. There were highly significant differences.
2. The honey production for Italian honeybee strain ranged from Kenyan
hive was 8220±145.72 g, to Langstroth hive with 3666.7±235.11 gr.,
there were highly significant differences.
3. The mean production of clover pollen for Italian honeybee strain
ranged from 1630.47±685.61 cm for both of horizontal and Kenyan
hive to 1046.19±386.98 cm for foam hive. There were non significant
differences4. Maize pollen production which ranged from 1542.28±72.67 to
989.37±62.72 cm for horizontal to vertical, respectively. But, there
were highly significant differences.
5. The mean queen weight (gr) for Italian honeybee strain ranged from
0.159±0.003 (gr) for foam hive to 0.157±0.006 (gr) for Langstroth
hive. There were non significant differences between five hives
conditional rearing hives.
6. The mean queen ovary weight for Italian honeybee strain ranged from
0.0044±0.00018 g for foam hive, to 0.0037±0.00036 g for Kenyan
hive. There were non significant differences between five hives in
queen ovary weight.
7. The mean worker wax mirror length (mm) for Italian honeybee strain
ranged from 3.042±0.042 (mm) for horizontal hive to 2.813±0.036
(mm) for foam hive. There were significant differences between five
hive conditional rearing.
8. Worker wax mirror width (mm) for Italian honeybee strain ranged
from Kenyan and hive was 1.792±0.042 mm to foam hives with
1.646±0.042 mm. there were significant differences between five
hives.
9. Worker wax mirror diameter (mm) for Italian honeybee strain ranged
from foam hive was 0.417±0.055 mm to Kenyan hive with
0.271±0.021 mm. Also, there significant differences between five
hives conditional rearing.
III- Effect of hive type on the production of Carniolan honeybee
honeybee strain
1. The mean production of brood area (inch2) for Carniolan honeybee
strain ranged from to 40.84±0.12 (inch2) for vertical hive. There were
highly significant differences.
