Abstract

Controlling related to occupational hazard is a condition of being, resulting from the modification of human behavior or designing of physical environment to reduce the possibility of exposure to occupational hazards Aim : Designing and implementing a guideline for controlling of occupational hazards facing staff nurses.Design: A quasi-expermental design was used in carrying out this study. Setting: Included all 5 intensive care units in Compound Kobri El kobaa Mlitiary Hospital. Subjects: Included all 100 staff nurses who worked in intensive care unit and having at least two years of job experience . Tools: I- occupational hazards knowledge questionnaire, II -occupational hazards exposure questionnaire,III- controlling measures observation checklist, IV- work environment observation checklist and V- Jury opinionaire sheet. Results : Majority ( 95%) of staff nurses had satisfactory total knowledge level regarding occupational hazards in immediately post and follow up ( after 3 month) than pre guidelines.Majority (80%) of physical hazards related to lower back pain and (86%) of psychological hazards related to psychological pressure and (70%) of ergonomic hazardas related to fall. There were high statistically significant related to all domian of compliance to controlling measures of occupational hazards through phases of guideline .There were statistically none significant in assessment staff nurse work environment and present (100%) all domians . Conclusion : There wase a positive correlation between total knowledge and total compliance to controlling measures of occupational hazards through different phasese of guidelines. Recommendations: Contuct continuously educational and inservice training programs for increasing staff nurses knowledge and compliance about controlling of occupational hazard and health care organization should integrate the concept of safety in the structure of the hospital system.
