Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and effect of workplace stress among pediatric
dentists.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study included 185 pediatric dentists aged from 24 to 36 years
old. Data regarding physiological assessment were collected by measuring blood pressure and
heart rate twice (before work and 3 hours later). While data regarding psychological assessment
were collected using 2 scales in the form of questionnaires: Cohen Percieved stress scale and
Workplace stress scale.
Results: The prevalence of workplace stress among pediatric dentists according to (10-PSS) was
81.1% moderate, 15.7% severe and 3.2% mild level of stress. According to (WSS) 35.7% of
participants showed moderate level of stress, 34% showed severe form, 16.2% had fairly low level
of stress, 11.9% suffered from dangerous form of stress and 2.2% had low stress level. The median
percent change in systolic pressure after work was zero, While the median percent change in
diastolic pressure was 1.18. The median percent change in heart rate after work was -2.35.
Conclusion: There is high prevalence of workplace stress among pediatric dentists which had a
strong impact on their psychology; However, the physiological parameters used in the current
study were not affected.
