Abstract

As a competitor to relays, the Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces “IRSs” can be implemented in order to provide a coverage extension in cellular systems. They can let the cellular system have a ubiquitous coverage. In addition, they can allow the wireless network extension especially when the muti-hop links exist.
The wireless communication systems may be affected by noise and interference. The interference may dominate the channel effects. The interference level can be determined by the power of the interfering source as well as the path loss between an interfering source to the intended communication receiver. The path loss values can be varied according to; the frequency of operation, the separation distance between a source and the receiver, and the nature of propagation environment.
This thesis is concerned with the study of the EMI effects on cooperative communication systems wherein the IRSs are implemented. Moreover, there are trials to apply space time block code in order to provide a coding gain. This gain can minimize the EMI effect and it can increase the radio system performance.
Firstly, the EMI effect on IRS aided communication system is studied assuming there is a coding gain. This gain results from application of Alamouti codes. The second part of the thesis handles the application of the millimeter wave channel models whereas the coding gain results from the application of space time block code “STBC”. The Last part of the thesis handles the application of cooperative communication techniques in the Tera Hertz models when the STBC codes are applied.
