The current study aims to understand the nature of tolerance. The study relies on the qualitative and quantitative approach to answer its questions. The proposed procedures for this study are to choose the qualitative approach (in-depth interview) appropriate to the nature of the study, and the quantitative approach (tolerance measures) and apply them to the sample. The data that the study concludes will be analyzed, and then the extracted results will be discussed in light of the objectives of the study and its research and theoretical heritage. The study was conducted in each of the following governorates (Aswan, Minya, Cairo, and Alexandria), and the sample was characterized by the following:
University students and adults over 35 years old.
• males and females.
• High-income and low-income people.
• Muslims and christians.
And prepared a battery for this purpose consisting of three scales.
o measure of social tolerance.
o measure of specific tolerance.
o measure of religious tolerance.
In-depth interview and According to the quantitative method, the study concluded:
- . There are statistically significant differences in the values of specific tolerance between males and females, where the value of t = 5.39, which is a function at a significant level less than 0.0001, and the differences towards the female sample, where m = 41.1, which is higher than the average of males.
- There are no statistically significant differences between the values of specific tolerance between high- and low-income women.
- There are statistically significant differences between Muslims and christians in the values of specific tolerance, where the value of t = 6.757, which is a function at a significant level less than 0.0001, and in the differences towards the sample of christians, where m = 43.58, which is higher than the average of christians.
- There are statistically significant differences between the governorates of Alexandria and the governorates of Aswan in the specific tolerance, as the average of the two groups reached 42.17 and 39.12 respectively, and the difference is significant towards Alexandria.
- There are no statistically significant differences in the values of specific tolerance between university students and adults over the age of 35 years.
- There are statistically significant differences in the values of social tolerance between males and females in favor of females.
- There are no statistically significant differences between the values of social tolerance among high- and low-income women.
- There are no statistically significant differences in the values of social tolerance between Muslims and christians.
- There are statistically significant differences between Alexandria and Minya governorates in social tolerance, where the average of the two groups was 36.76 and 35.77 respectively, and the difference was significant towards Alexandria.
- There are statistically significant differences in the values of social tolerance between university students and adults over the age of 35 in favor of university students.
- There are statistically significant differences between the values of religious tolerance between males and females in favor of females.
- There are no statistically significant differences in the values of religious tolerance between high- and low-income women.
-. There are no statistically significant differences in the values of religious tolerance between Muslims and christians.
-. Statistically significant differences in the values of religious tolerance among the governorates (Aswan, Minya, Cairo, and Alexandria) were found after statistical treatment.
a. There are statistically significant differences between Alexandria and Aswan governorates in religious tolerance, where the average of the two groups was 41.13 and 40.85 respectively, and the difference was significant towards Alexandria.
b. There are statistically significant differences between Alexandria and Minya governorates in religious tolerance, where the average of the two groups was 41.13 and 39.70 respectively, and the difference was significant towards Alexandria.
c. There are statistically significant differences between Alexandria and Cairo governorates in religious tolerance, as the average of the two groups reached 41.13 and 37.44 respectively, and the difference is significant towards Alexandria.
- There are statistically significant differences in the values of religious tolerance between university students and adults over the age of 35 in favor of university students.
According to the qualitative approach (in-depth interview):
1. The in-depth interview showed that the governorate of Alexandria is more tolerant in terms of quality than the governorates of Cairo and Minya, and then the governorate of Aswan.
2. The in-depth interview showed that the governorate of Alexandria is more socially tolerant than the governorate of Aswan, Cairo, or Minya.
3. The in-depth interview showed that Alexandria governorate is more religiously tolerant, then Aswan governorate, then Cairo, then Minya governorate.
