Abstract
Introduction: Education is a basic and necessary human right for all human beings, and it is urgent for tens of millions of children and youth affected by emergency situations such as conflicts and disasters that greatly affect educational efforts, and deprive learners of the transformative results of quality education. Hence the concept of Education in Emergencies, which means quality learning opportunities for all ages in crisis situations, including early childhood, primary and secondary education, non-formal education, technical and vocational education, higher education, and adult education. Education in emergencies provides the physical, psychological, social and cognitive protection that can sustain and save lives.
Research problem: Despite the previous efforts in Egypt in the field of education in emergencies, it is noted the weakness of preparations and the shortcomings and improvisations of policies, decisions and educational interventions used to deal with these conditions. As a result of this shortcoming, the main question of the research is how to benefit from the applications of emergency education formulas in Colombia and Iraq in a way that suits the Egyptian cultural context? The study relied on the comparative approach and its steps.
The research aims to: Reach out to the proposed procedures for the development of pre-university education in emergency situations in a way that suits the Egyptian cultural context in the light of the lessons learned from the study of emergency education formulas in the two comparative countries.
Results: Colombia and Iraq have succeeded in providing education in emergencies under the Accelerated Education and Child Friendly Schools formats; the experiment was able to achieve its goals in enhancing the availability of education and protecting children and youth from losing their future in light of the crisis.
Proposed actions: The need to enact legislation that paves the way for making education one of the first responses in emergencies. Considering education in emergencies a political and planning priority. Adding education in emergencies within teacher preparation programs. Educating educational workers about education in emergencies. Prepare curricula to suit the provision of education in emergencies.
