Abstract

The fire control problem can be defined as how to point a gun so that the fired projectile will hit the target. This research aims to develop a new method of solving the fire control problem for air-defense applications. This method is based on the iterative numerical solution of the equations of motion of the projectile in real time using a point-mass or a six-degrees-of-freedom ballistic trajectory model while utilizing a complete aerodynamic model for the projectile obtained using PRODAS software package. The effect of computational time on the hit accuracy and the maximum target{u2019}s speed that can be handled is also studied. The method is tested using computer simulations against different target scenarios and successful hits are obtained using a few iterations. The results also revealed the effect of computational time on decreasing the hit accuracy and the target{u2019}s maximum speed
