Abstract

Lower tibial epiphyseal injury account for 11% of all physeal injuries. The aim of the work is evaluation of the clinical and radiologicaly outcome of lower epiphyseal injury managed percutaneously fixation. This study included 12 cases with traumatic injuries of the distal tibial epiphysis. All cases were managed surgically. The implants used were KW in 10 cases and KW with malleolar screw in 2 cases. The age of the patients ranged from 8_16 years with a mean of 12 years. The right side was affected in 8 cases and the left in 4 cases. The time lag between onset of trauma and treatment ranged from 24 hours up to 48 hours with a mean of 30 hours. Immobilization period ranged from 6-8 week. They all operated in orthopedic department Zagazig university and Damietta specialized hospital and follow up cliniclly and radilogically immediately postoperative and for 6 months. It was proved in this study that percutaneous pinning for recent lower tibial epiphyseal injury provide speed recovery and secure fixation. There was no significant statistical relation between the results and sex, age, side affected and the period of follow _up.
