Abstract

Background: This study is to compare between open TLIF and MIS TLIF for treatment of low-grade spondylolisthesis as regard short term outcome such as inta-operative of blood loss , Duration of surgery, Incidence of intra-operative complications ,post-operative pain , Surgical site infection , Start of ambulation and Length of hospitalization. Patients and Methods: This is a prospective study was be conducted in Mansoura University hospitals. After approval from the Institutional Research Board, Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University, patients were interviewed and written informed consents were obtained from the patients that done open TLIF or MIS TLIF and admitted to neurosurgery department at Mansoura university hospitals. Results: The result of our study shows that the intra-operative blood loss is significantly less in the MIS group than the OPEN group, the operative time in the MIS group is less than the OPEN group while there is no significant difference in the incidence of intra-operative complications between the two groups and there is no significant difference in the clinical outcome between the two groups. although the VAS in the MIS group is less than the OPEN group there were no significant difference between the two groups and there was no significant difference between ODI in both groups. As regard post-operative surgical site infection there was no significant difference between the two groups. And there was significant difference between the two groups as regard the start of post-operative ambulation and the LOHS the MIS group starts post-operative ambulation earlier than the open group and has shorter LOHS. Conclusion: this study showed that MIS TLIF provide intra-operative blood loss and shorter operative time with no significant difference in the clinical outcome and the complications between the two procedures in association with early ambulation and shorter length of hospitalization.
