Abstract There are some barriers that cause speaking deficiency among EFL learners. These barriers include inhibition, linguistic difficulties, ineffective methods of teaching, lack of speech content, inadequate opportunities for practicing speaking, and mother-tongue interference. To clarify these barriers the researcher adopted the following steps: reviewing literature, conducting a pilot study, conducting a content analysis of the first-year secondary school teacher’s guide, and interviewing some EFL teachers. As a result, the researcher proposed using podcasting in an attempt to overcome these barriers and improve learners’ EFL speaking skills. The main aim of the present study was to enhance learners’ speaking skills among EFL first-year secondary school students by using podcasting. In order to accomplish the aim of the present study, the researcher developed a podcasting program. In addition, the researcher utilized some interactive speaking activities through which the researcher attempted to help learners to express their ideas and opinions effectively and freely in the target language, to master communication in real authentic contexts, and to use the target language properly in various social situations and contexts. |
