Abstract

SUMMARY
Psoriasis, a chronic erythemato squamous dermatitis that affects about 2-3% of the population, is characterized by abnormal keratinocyte hyperproliferation, which make thickening of the epidermis and of the stratum corneum. Psoriasis vulgaris accounts for 90% of the psoriasis cases and is characterized by well delineated reddish and scaly papules and plaques.
Inverse psoriasis also known as flexural or intertriginous psoriasis, is a variety of plaque psoriasis that involves the body folds, most often the axillary, anogenital, and inframammary ones. the prevalence of inverse psoriasis is highly variable, ranging from 3 to 36%. Inverse psoriasis is clinically characterized by well demarcated, erythematous patches. The most commonly affected areas are the inguinal folds, followed by axillae, inframammary folds, perianal area, umbilicus, and retroauricular areas. Antecubital and popliteal fossae and interdigital spaces may also be involved. External genitalia involvement is considered part of inverse psoriasis presentation.
Sexual function (SF) is an essential component of life. For this reason, sexual dysfunction (SD) can have a negative impact on the well-being of an individual.
Sexual dysfunction (SD) is defined as difficulty experienced by an individual or couple during any stage of normal sexual activity, including physical pleasure, desire, preference, arousal or orgasm, it can have a profound impact on an individual’s quality of sexual life.
Psoriasis is a skin condition with a high rate of psychiatric comorbidity, if goes unrecognized. the negative consequences of mood disorders like depression and anxiety will affect on patient quality of life.
The greater frequency of sexual dysfunctions in association with psoriasis may respond to different factors. On the one hand, psoriasis can cause an alteration in body image that could produce feelings of low self-esteem, stigmatization and decreased confidence; these could lead to sexual dysfunctions, just as genital involvement may be a direct impediment to sex.
In this study, found that inverse psoriasis has significant effect on quality of life and sexual functions.
Dermatologist should think in psoriasis associated comorbidities as Cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, psoriatic arthritis, mood disorders and sexual dysfunction to provide better quality of life for psoriasis patients.
