Abstract Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is a common complaint among patients of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). On the contrary, OSA has been cited as the most common medical issue linked to EDS. In patients with OSA, there is considerable inter-individual unpredictability in sleepiness, in addition, the determinants of this variability are obscure ; also, there is the disparity in data correlating subjective with objective sleepiness. It is unclear why some patients with OSA experience EDS while others do not. The aim of this study is to investigate the predictors that assess subjective and/or objective sleepiness in patients newly diagnosed with OSAS based on polysomnography and to assess sleepiness relations to the polysomnographic parameters. from October 2018 to March 2021, an observational analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in a Sleep-Disordered Breathing Clinic and Unit at Mansoura University Hospitals’ Chest Medicine Department. The participants in this study were 80 adult patients who newly attended to sleep clinic including 44 men, and 36 women. Overall 62 patients completed the study, 18 patients were ruled out [with three didn’t fulfill polysomnographic criteria and 15 failing finishing it owing to government lockdown during the COVID19 outbreak’s Epoch]. |
