Abstract

This thesis is entitled “Jesus the christ in the Byzantine Art from the Third to the Seventh Century A.D.”. It aims to study the different representations of Jesus christ appeared in different types of arts, starting from the period before the Byzantine period till the Arab arrival to Egypt, from the Third till the Seventh century, through analyzing the different scenes representing christ, based on a scientific facts. This thesis aims to show the different influences that affected these representations. The study started with a brief introduction about the christ through identifying names, titles, family, life, and the spread of christianity through Egypt. Followed by choosing certain places which had the largest and earliest scenes for him, then a wide display for the different artifacts decorated with the christ’s scenes in detailed explanation, till reaching the analysis for what was previously explained and ended with the final conclusion with the most important results based on what is analyzed. Then, the Arabic and English references and sources, finally the Figures.
