Abstract The current study was conducted to investigate corrosion inhibitory effect of some pharmaceutical (ciprofloxacin- clotrimazole- chitosan) and prepared plant extract compounds (clove - thyme) on stainless-steel and copper-nickel-titanium orthodontic arch wires. Each inhibitor was added in different concentrations (100 - 200 - 300 ppm) to acidulated phosphate fluoride solution (APF) (0.5 % NaF + 0.17 % H3PO4) adjusted to pH of 3.5. The corrosion inhibitory effect of different corrosion inhibitors was investigated by pontiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method. The amount of nickel ion released was measured by using graphite furnace atomic absorbance spectroscopy. Surface friction was investigated by using a universal testing machine. Surface roughness was investigated by atomic force microscope (AFM). Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to detect surface morphological changes before and after adding different corrosion inhibitors. |
