Abstract Febrile convulsion is a common type of a cute convulsions occurred in children under five years by incidence of 5 % in Egypt, and most of the diseases in children are signaled by rise in body temperature. The study aimed to assess mothers’ care regarding febrile convulsions for children under five years at homes. Research Design: A descriptive research design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: The present study was conducted at Out-Patient Clinic in Benha Fever Hospital followed by home visits. Sample: A convenient sample of 180 mothers and their children. Two Tools were used: The first tool: An interviewing questionnaire to assess socio-demographic data of studied mother and their child, medical history of febrile convulsion of the child, and mothers’ knowledge regarding febrile convulsion. The second tool: A) Observational check list to assess mothers practices regarding febrile convulsion at home. B) Observational check list to assess home environment. Results: 48.3% of studied mothers aged 25-30 years. Regarding educational level 46.7% of them had secondary school. 45.6% of febrile convulsive children aged from 6 month to 1 year. A bout 33.3% of mothers had good total knowledge score, but 68.9% of them had unsatisfactory practice score regarding convulsions. Conclusion: There were highly statistically significant relation between mother’s knowledge and their age, education, marital status, and occupation. Also there were positive correlation between total knowledge of mothers and their total practices. Recommendation: Health education programs for febrile convulsions prevention should be performed at Out Patient Clinics using booklets, posters and other mass media to improve mother’s knowledge and practice. |
