Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the possible therapeutic effect of fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), mustard (Brassica iuncea), and onion seeds (Allium cepa, L.) and their blend on renopathy and diabetes mellitus. The current study was performed on a total of 45 male albino rats weighing (18010g) each. Rats were fed on normal (basal) diet, and water was provided by means of glass tubes. The animals were divided into 9 equal groups (5 rats for each group), one group was kept as a (C –ve) group, other 4 groups were injected with alloxan (150 mg / kg body weight) to obtain the hyperglycemic rats while the other 4 groups were injected with gentamicin (100 mg / kg body weight) daily for two weeks to obtain the renopathic rats. All rats were fed on control diet for a week before the beginning of experiments for adaptation and disparted into nine equal groups (n= 5 rats) as the following:
First Group: (Normal Rats) - group 1: Control group (control negative) (-ve) were fed on basal diet for 28 days. Second Groups: (Rats injected with gentamicin 100 mg\kg) - group 2 :( Renopathic rats) control group (control positive) (+ve) were fed on basal diet for 28 days. - Group3 :( Renopathic rats) were fed on basal diet + 5% fennel seeds. - Group4 :( Renopathic rats) were fed on basal diet + 5% mustard seeds. - group 5: (Renopathic rats) were fed on basal diet+ 5% onion seeds. Third Groups: (Rats injected with alloxan 150 mg/kg injections) - group 2: (Hyperglycemic rats) control group (control positive) (+ve) were fed on basal diet for 28 days. - group 3: (Hyperglycemic rats) were fed on basal diet + 5% fennel seeds. - Group4: (Hyperglycemic rats) were fed on basal diet+ 5% mustard seeds. - group 5: (Hyperglycemic rats) were fed on basal diet + 5% onion seeds.
