Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at El-Hajarsh Village, Kafr Saqr Center, Sharkia Governorate, Egypt, during the two successive summer seasons of 2013 and 2014. The main objective of this study was to determine the effect of application methods and treating with various growth promoter substances and their interaction on growth, yield and its attributes of maize hybrid single cross 10 (SC 10). The effect of methods of application i.e. without (control treatment), seed soaking, foliar application and seed soaking and foliar application on maize growth characteristics i.e. number of days from sowing to 50 % tasseling, number of days from sowing to 50 % silking, Plant and ear height and ear leaf area. was significant in both seasons with exception number of days from sowing to 50 % tasseling and ear leaf area in both season. from obtained results, it could be recommended that seed soaking and foliar spraying maize plants together which exceeded other application methods and produced the highest values of these characters in the first and second seasons. Whereas, seed soaking gave the best values of all studied characters after aforementioned treatment in the two growing seasons. On the other wise, foliar application on maize resulted in the lowest values of these characters in both seasons.Regarding the effect of treating with various substances i.e. without (control treatment), foliar spraying with water, gibberellic acid (GA3) at the rate of 100ppm, oxalic acid (OA) at the rate of 400ppm and yeast extract (YE) at the rate of 100ml/L. on maize growth characteristics i.e. number of days from sowing to 50 % tasseling, number of days from sowing to 50 % silking, Plant and ear height and ear leaf area, the obtained results of this study apparently cleared that there was a significant effect in both seasons. from obtained results, it could be recommend that treating maize plants with yeast extract (YE) at the rate of 100 ml/L,which exceeded other treatment and produced the highest values of these characters in the first and second seasons. Whereas, treating plants with gibberellic acid (GA3) at the rate of 100ppm gave the best values of all studied characters after aforementioned treatment in the two growing seasons. Followed by oxalic acid (OA) at the rate of 400ppm, then water On the other wise, control treatment (without treatments) resulted in the lowest values of these characters in both seasons.About the effect of interaction, it could be noticed that plant height(in the first season)and ear height (in both seasons), number of row /ear (in the first season), number of grains/row (in both seasons )ear weight (in the second season), 100-grain weight ( in the first season), grain and Stover yields/fed (in both seasons) was significantly influenced by the interaction between both studied factors (methods of application and treating with various substances). It can be concluded that seed soaking for 18 hour and foliar spraying maize hybrid SC 10 with yeast extract (YE) at the rate of 100 ml/L twice after 25and, 45 days in order to maintain high productivity and at the same time reduce production costs and environmental pollution under the environmental conditions of Sharkia Governorate, Egypt.
