Abstract

Occupational exposure to blood borne viral infections continues to be a national and international problem, despite continuing improvements in infection control programs. Occupational safety of HCWs is considered an important issue in controlling and limiting the transmission of infectious diseases between HCWs and patients. Certainly, absence of efficient policies for control of blood borne viral infections at hospital settings increases the risk of transmission of these diseases among patients and health care workers with serious implications on health and economics. Therefore, following international and national guidelines for management of occupational exposure to blood borne viral infections which are easy and simple would reduce the transmission of blood borne viral infections, thus reducing the economic burden of treating these diseases.
