Abstract

The aim of our study was to estimate the level of IGF-1 and GH in CP patients and detect the relationship between these factors and growth. Our study included 50 cases .The studied groups were subjected to history taking, clinical examination and laboratory investigations including serum IGF-1&serum GH by ELISA.
Another 20 normal child and adolecsant were taken for comparison with CP patient as regard to serum IGF-1 and serum GH. .They were subjected to clinical examination and laboratory investigations including serum IGF-1&serum GH by ELISA.
As regard the results of the current study, we found that highly significant higher level of IGF-1 and GH present in normal children than CP patients. Also statistical significant higher mean levels of serum IGF-1 and GH in normal children .
Moreover, there were significant positive correlations between mean serum IGF-1 and GH level with weight , length and BMI in case and control supporting the idea that IGF-1and GH levels are the primary hormones involved in the regulation of growth and so deficiency of them lead to low weight , length and BMI in CP patients.
We concluded that IGF-1 and GH were lower in CP patient than normal children and adolescents at the same age grope .IGF-1 and GH had significant correlation with anthropometric measurements future studies on larger population scales and for longer durations are warranted to assess the growth benefit of GH in CP patients.
Thus, the diagnosis of GHD should be searched for in all children with CP who are growing slowly (Gustafson et al., 1999).
