Abstract

The present study targeted to investigate the effect of doum palm seeds and leek seeds (as 3, 5%) on hypercholesterolemic rats considering the amelioration of atherosclerosis via lowering A.I. ratio. For this purpose, the study included 30 rats about 150±5(g) weight. Biological & chemical analysis of serum and histopathological investigation of internal organs were carried out. The results could be summarized as follows: 1- Due to hypercholesterolemia, rats BWG, FER and FI were decreased. 2- Feeding on basal diet contained doum palm seeds and leek seeds increased the BWG, FER and FI. 3- Hypercholesterolemia raised the internal organs weights while the reverse indicated on feeding with doum palm seeds and leek seeds of all seeds (as 3, 5%). 4- Due to Hypercholesterolemia, rats serum glucose level was raised, but when feeding on basal diet contained doum palm seeds and leek seeds (as 3, 5%) glucose decreased. Treatment with of leek seeds (as 5%) recorded the highest decrement. 5- Hypercholesterolemia due to high fat diet caused the increased TC, TG , LDL & VLDL, but resulted in the decreased the serum HDL. 6- Rats fed on doum palm seeds (as 5%) (group 4) showed the best treatment for lowering TC. 7- The better serum (T.G.) was noticed for group 4 (Hypercholesterolemic rats fed on doum palm seeds as 5%) when compared to control (-) group. 8- The best serum (HDLc) was recorded for group 4 (Hypercholesterolemic rats fed on leek seeds ”as 3%”) when compared to control (-) group. 9- Rats fed on group 4 (doum palm seeds as 5%) recorded the best treatment for.
