Abstract

This study investigates the effect of whole body exposure to electric field and
nicotine administration on rat blood and bone. The procedures of study included analysis for calcium level in both bone and blood, some ions in plasma (Mg, Cu,
Na) ,the erythrocytes morphology and membrane properties were tested through
measurements of osmofragility, biochemistry tests (CPK, Hg concentration,SGPT, SGOT, HC% ) and mechanical properties of bone. The data of the present study showed that :-1- Whole body exposure of the rats to electric field (5 KV/m and 10 KV/m)caused functional cellular disorders including elements concentration, RBCs cell
membrane and mechanical properties of bone.
2- The degree of these disorders was increased with nicotine manipulation.
Therefore, it was recommended that:-
The Exposure of occupational workers to electric field is risky, thus periodic medical examination of the radiation occupational workers especially smokers
should include the test of red blood cells morphology and functions. Counting of blood isn’t enough to inform about the radiation hazards. Key Words (not more then ten) : Red cells blood, Electric field ,blood ,bone.
