Abstract

In this work, lanthanides and uranium has been leached and extracted from Abu Tartur phosphate ore. The leaching takes place by HCI, HNO.1 and H2S04 in a batch and column techniques. Thermodynam ic and ki netic stud ies were carried out. The extraction of uranium and lanthanides were carried out by solvent extraction. The organic solvents used were tri alkyl phosphine oxide (Cyanex 923, TRPO) and Di (2-ethyl hexyl) phosphoric acid (HDEHP). The factors affecting the leaching and the extraction of uranium and lanthanides were investigated. The effect of some additives like, boric acid, oxalic acid, aluminum chloride, sodium metasilicate and hydroxylamine hydrochloride on the leaching and extraction were investigated. The results are used to assess the conditions for maximum separation of lanthanides and uranium from Abu Tartur phosphate ore. Also the potential application of nanocrystals of undoped Ti02 and doped Ti02 by lanthanides as a photocatalysis for the degradation of some of organic pollutants in water namely, blue dye, green dye yellow dye and para chlorophenol has been investigated using batch technique also the adsorption properties of Ti02 was investigated toward some heavy metals such as iron and chromium and some other ions such as n’itrite, nitrate and ammonia. The experimental results obtained were calculated for first order kinetic model. The doped Ti02 were found to degrade efficiently the organic dyes from the water. The characterizations of the nanocrystals were estimated using XRD, SEM, I.R., Raman spectra and UV-VIS spectruill.
