Abstract
This study aimed to identify, in detailed, the various aspects of
universal banking strategy in terms of its nature, the circumstances that
led to its establishment, and its application attempts globally and locally. It
also aimed to highlight on the reality and performance of the Yemeni
banking sector, the extent of its need to adopt this strategy, and the
extent of its readiness to apply it.
By using some relevant indicators to the evaluation and
performance of the Yemeni banking sector, the study concluded that
there are several problems and challenges stand behind the low
performance of the Yemeni banking sector and the weakness of its
contribution in the process of economic development. To overcoming
them, it requires to shift the Yemeni banks towards practicing the
universal banking.
In addition, by using some statistical methods, the study
concluded that there are many difficulties impede the application of the
universal banking in Yemen, and if they treated or mitigated, then it could
be driving factors towards the application of universal banking in the
Yemeni banks.
Consequently, the study recommended that these difficulties
should be treated or mitigated to apply the universal banking strategy
and, thus, upgrading the Yemeni banking performance level and raising
its contribution in the economic development process.
