Abstract The present study was carried out with the aim of examining apology strategies in both Norwich English and Minia Arabic. It attempts to examine how these strategies differ as a function of culture, gender, social distance and education. The present study has been conducted with the ultimate goal of applying the findings to the teaching of English language and culture. In the present study the model adopted is that of Cohen and Olshtain (1981), it based on the CCSARP. The results of this study indicate significant differences between Minia Arabic speakers and Norwich English Speakers in their choice of apology strategies. In making their apology Minia Arabic speakers preferred direct strategies of apology. |
