Abstract
The present work was carried out in an attempt to determine
whether the salivary hyaluronidase (tissue and/or bacterial) activity varied with pregnancy and its relationship to the gingival conditions.
Fifteen pregnant women less than twelve weeks of pregnancy and fifteen non—pregnant women, not under hormonal contraceptive treatment and experienced regular 28 — day menstrual cycles. Their ages ranged between twenty and thirty years old and free from any systemic diseases, have been examined.
Clinical dental examination and sampling of saliva were taken from the pregnant women in each trimester. The samples of the control group were obtained 2-43 days after cessation of bleeding (resting phase), Clinical dental evaluation was anplied by using gingival.plaque and retension indices accoding to Silness and Loe (1964), Loe (1967) and Rainfjord (1959) respectively. The activities of bacterial and tissue hyaluronidase were determined in a total sexty samples saliva by turbidimetric method based on that of Kass and Seastone (1944) and Tolksdrol
