Abstract The dental surgeon’s duty towards his patient does not end with the placing of a pack or taking the last suture but he must ensure that the patientts post—operative period is as pain free and uneventful as possible. Smoking is a bad habit which spreads all over the world in many forms as cigarette,cigar,pipe,plug and snuff. It is considered as a predisposing factor for many general diseases in heart,blood and lung. Smoking also affects the prognosis of oral surgery.In this work we try to study its effect on the occurance of dry socket. The aim of this work was to detect the correlation between smoking and occurance of dry socket. Two hundred healthy patients were selected and divided into two groups: Group I : 100 patients were smokers. 12 patients from t]-iis group showed the signs and symptoms of dry socket. Group II : 100 patients were non—smokers.3 patients from this group showed the signs and symptoms of dry socket |
