Abstract Different biological treatments were conducted to identify the possible methods that could be used for improving the nutritional quality of some crop by-products ( pinne of date palm tree, olive pulp, date seeds, barley straw, peanut straw, wheat straw, rice straw, corn stalks, cotton stalks and bean straw) with three moisture levels (40, 50 and 60%) and three duration periods of fungi treatments (2, 4 and 6 weeks) for small ruminants. Chemical composition, cell wall constituents, DM recovery rate, In Situ DM and OM disappearances were compared among crop by-products. Eight digestibility trails and nitrogen balance were proceeded on sheep fed rations contained 50% concentrate mixture of maintenance and ad lab of biologically (fungi treatment) treated and untreated rice straw, corn stalks, olive pulp and date seeds some rumen liquor and blood serum parameters were determined. The best results indicated that biological treatments for rice straw and corn stalks with 60% moisture and 2 weeks duration period of fermentation and 40% moisture and 2 weeks duration period with olive pulp and date seeds. Using biological treatments to improve nutritive value of crop by-product in sheep rations is useful and did not cause any abnormal condition on rumen activity, liver and kidney functions and animal performance as well. |
