Abstract This study is concerned with the behavior of calcareous sandy soil under steel tank foundation laboratory and field tests were carried out on sandy soil in Kuwait area and the data obtained were used in the calculation of the expected settlement and in the design of the tank.. Different methods were used to evaluate the settlement at the center orl and at the edge of the tank.The out- put data were compared with these obtained from the water load tests (Hydrotests). These tests were carried out on the same area tanks with diameter of 67111and height of 15m. The vertical movements of the tank were monitored using 25 points located at the perimeter. Finite element program , Plasixs, was used to predict the settlement underneath the tank as well as outside the loaded area. This method shows that it is suitable to evaluate the settlement under the tank assuming E= (76N ) tlm2 , since it yields the same settlement as recorded during the loading test. |
