Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a worldwide major health problem and diabetic patients are more prone to infection, they can also develop neuropathy or peripheral vascular disease of the legs and either can lead to foot ulceration and gangrene later on .
Diabetic foot ulcers are common and are estimated to affect 15% of all diabetic individuals during their lifetimes.
Infection and foot ulceration, alone or in combination, often lead to amputation.
Furthermore ; more than half of lower limb amputations occur in people with diagnosed diabetes .
Fortunately; not all people with diabetes develop foot problems.
Also ; in many cases serious problems can be prevented by an understanding of what can happen to feet and how to take care of them.
There are several analytic or experimental studies which have demonstrated the beneficial effect of family physician follow up and patient education on reducing lower extremities amputations Non-traumatic lower extremity diabetic ulcers and amputations are an important and costly problem.
Systematic approaches to reducing the burden from these complications are needed.
In the present study ; the usefulness of health services provided to diabetic patients in the context of family practice system will be studied and evaluated.
The study was designed to illustrate the role of the family physician in reduction of diabetic foot complications and foot amputations and to evaluate diabetic patient’s satisfaction about the extent and usefulness of health services provided.
