Abstract Cross-sectional imaging is ideally suited to demonstrate the different comparments of the larynx and hypopharynx, and a precise knowledge of the different spaces of the supraglottic, glottic and subglottic regions is essential for localizing the site and extension of pathologic processes .various techniques are used to evaluate lesions of the head and neck, each has its advantages and drawbacks .direct endoscopy gives informations in a 3-d format. In addition to being an invasive procedure, endoscopy allows visualization only within a cavity or lumen and cannot access many regions of the body .the most commonly used imaging modality in patients with cancer is computed tomography, which is the principle tool used to stage tumor, assess response and guide radiation therapy .the application of ct scanning in patients with laryngral masses was found to be helpful for delineation of involvment of the aryepiglottic folds, the epiglottis and the pre-epiglottic space , the vocal cords, obliteration of the paraglottic spaces, pyriform sinuses exension in patients with transglottic carcinomas. The voluminous growths at the supraglottic larynx occurred in some cases masked the laryngeal structures below during endoscopy . |
