Abstract

Osteoarthritis is one of wly evolving articular disease characterized by the gradual development of joint pain, stiffness, limitation of motion, destructions of the articular cartilage, changes in subchondral bone, and a variable synovial reaction.
The prevalence of knee OA is increasing as the prevalence of older and overweight people rapidly increases. In fast, being overweight increases the risk that osteoarthritis will get worse once it has developed. As osteoarthritis of the knee progresses, the eartilage gradually roughens and becomes so thin that it can no longer cushion the bones in the knee. This deterioration causes pain most commonly; it can lead to difficlty in walking and significant inability to perform activities of daily living,
The nurse has an important role in helping patients with knee OA by demonstrating certain strategies in decreasing knee OA progress, controlling signs and symptoms, joint protection, dealing with the disease according to their life style. Aim of the study
This aim of this study was to determine the effect of the quadriceps muscle strength exercises on the functional health status among patients with osteoarthritis of the knee joint.
The study was carried out on thirty adult patients at Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Alexandria Main University Hospital and El-Hadara
Hospital. The sample was composed of 30 patients having OA of the knee joint.
