Abstract SUMMARY The present study was carried out at the apiary of the research unit of Apiculture, El-Sabahia Research Station, Agric. Res. Center, Alexandria, Egypt, on the Carniolan-Egyptian hybrid, the well known and usually used one in the Egyptian apiaries. The experiments were performed during the queen rearing period in Egypt along two successive years of 2003 and 2004. The adopted comparative study was devoted to evaluate the five different methods of queen rearing; Doolittle (Grafting), Hopkins, Miller, Natural and Smith ones. The main objectives of these practised rearing methods were carried on to determine the advantages and disadvantages of each rearing method taking in consideration the measurements of the following aspects: - The estimation of the biometrical characters of mated queens, - Studying of the different morphological and anatomical characters of raised virgin queens, - Calculation of the relationship between the measured quantitative and qualitative characters of raised virgin and/or mated queens from each of the tested rearing methods. - Besides, • The evaluation of the efficiency of added supplementary feeding materials to the mating nuclei and rearing colonies. |
