Geography of Rural settlement in Eafu

”Abstract”
- Edfu is one of Aswan Governorate districts. it’s the northern gate of the governorate . It’s rated the second in the governorate in the area. The district’s area is about 309.5 square kilometers about %34 from the inhabitel area in the governorate.The number of its population is rated the first among the number of the other districts of the governorate about %37,this is in 2004 . It’s rated the 224 th among the districts of the republic and rated the second amopg the districts of the governorate in the haman developmentf reporf of Egypt .it’s rated as the biggest district among the 227 settlemen distrids representing about % 42 .
- Chapter one studied the pattern of the distribution and the plans of the settlements which had been affected by the natural elements such as the location, soil, climate , the surface etc. It shows that the location strictly supposed a distinguished position for the settlements in size, pattern and distribution . The settlements have This led to settlement, housing and agriculture on the western bank as the river. Geological formation played a greaTTole in setting up and developing villages. This led to appearing anew settlements depended ’on mining and economy. As for climate had affected the form and building characteristics of houses. Besides knowing the places or the villages which face heavy rainfall, the soil and its fertility affected the size of settlement area and the rate of the agglomeration or dispersion; besides the building material .
- It showed the study of the population factors which affected the settlement of the district. Settlement in Edfu is very old. It appeared ages ago. It’s effects are still up till, now. Irrigation had a great effect on the distribution of settlement for a very long time. New, land reclamation project also a effected settlement. This is considered a true addition to the map of agriculture and settlement of Edfu .
- The 3rd chapter discussed the most important factors that contributed more to settlement, the river Nile helped in the settlement of 8 villages about %47.1. It also showed there is a big difference between settlement on the west and east banks of the river. The axis of this distribution with:chi square (x2).Nearest Neighbour, connection factor,Dissipation, Analysis spacing and correlation co. efficient Distribution has 3 forms represented in the pattern of near distribution (%23.4) The distribution of this settlement didn’t come by chance but it’s related to soil fertility, green lands, canals the history of these villages, near or far from the Nile .etc . It showed the big size of the village of Edfu . the size the village is more than 373 feddans . The prevailed pattern of the villages the pattern of the settlement of the edge. It includes 85 settlement districts a bout %38. After that we had the settlement of the plain which includes 69 settlement districts . then the settlement of the river which includes 742 settlement districts.
- The fourth chapter showed the distribution of rural settlement according to different jobs there are agricultural villages which%42 of the total number of rural population- there industrial villages which represent % 17.6 totally three villages there are two commercial villages. Population in Edfu is 240611 persons. The rural population increased during the time
( 1927-2004) there is a change in the jobs from agriculture to industry which representing the decrease in the rate of those who work in agriculture from % 61.1 in 1960 to %36 in 1996. Illiteracy has decreased from %64.9 in 1976 to %32.5 in 2004.
-The 5th chapter brought a detailed field study of evaluated sample models . This is to show the characteristics of the village in Edfu . In this chapter villages of the eastern side use stones as materials of building. In western side they used different kinds of building material . The chapter showed the area of housing in the east bigger than that one in the west this chapter revealed the height of house in the eastern and western side . It showed that the plan of housing has may patterns as a result of location affected by surface, streams of water and roads The geographical information technology drew up the growth and it ways during the near future.
- The sixth chapter studied spatial between different settlement Jn Edfu . There is an economical relation between Edfu and its villages represented greatly in its weekly market this chapter revealed the shortage in different services in the eastern side of the district.
- The 7th chapter discussed all over view on the development of settlement through knowing the natural of the problems that face the rural settlement Such as urban growth, environmental problems, the problems of rural housing, The shortage of services the houses of high pressure, The fish wealth, The problem of tourism development, of dividing lands and its ownership ,etc. The chapter also discussed the danger of poverty.The 2nd part of this chapter discussed the development of settlement . This development has two stages one of them is limited which is found in western of Hager Edfu and the new El ghnemia. The second stage is separated widely and is found New Edfu.
