Abstract this intervention study was carried out in a trial to establish a program to help those who were smokers to quit smoking or least reduce the number of cigarettes they smoked per day. Also to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention program. The total number of the workers included in the first stage (screening) was 645 representing 89% of the total male workers. 321 (49.8%) of them were smokers. Only 116 smokers were included in the second stage (health education). The study found that there was no significant relation between the residence of the workers and their smoking habit. While there was a high significant relation between the type of the work and smoking habit of the workers (p< 0.002). the majority of both the manual and clerical workers were smokers (51.6% and 50.6% respectively) , while the majority of the professional workers (51.7%) were non-smokers. |
