Abstract

This work aimed to investigate the possibility of vegetating different levels of seeds (fenugreek) and /or grains (barley) with some additives using rice straw as a bedding material in ruminant nutrition . Rice straw was chopped (2-3cm) and soaked in water (100g rice straw/ 250 ml water) for one hr .Also, barley grains and fenugreek seeds were soaked at the same time for 24 hr. The soaked rice straw was put in 27 perforated trays by 1 Kg /each try in two layers 7-8 cm in thickness. This trays were divided into three groups (9 each) to use one of the following levels 10, 20 or 25% of soaked barley, fenugreek of them. Each group was divided into three sub treatments (3 each) as follows
• Without any addition (control).
• Frotta liquid fertilizer (2 cm /1LWater).
• Urea solution fertilizer (2g /1LWater).
Every type of vegetation (barley, fenugreek or mixture) had 3 trays without vegetation seeds or grains as a control .The final product was nutritionally evaluated through chemical composition and in-vitro dry or organic matter disappearance to find out the best.
Results indicated that using 25% of barley grains during vegetation in sprouted barley-straw (SBS) and sprouted mixture (50%barley grains + 50% fenugreek seeds, SMS)-straw with urea solution were significantly (P<0.05) higher in crude protein content by 118.2and 84.9%, respectively and lower CF content by 44.4 and 27.50% compared with the control The improvement was observed in values of dry and organic matter disappearance.
The results showed that the using SBS and SMS in animal feeding significantly (P<0.05) improved CPD by 6.64 and 12.59%, respectively and CFD increased by 1.16 in R2, while decrease by 5.41% in R4 compared with control. There was significant (P<0.05) increase in nutritive value as TDN and DCP for R2 by 0.50 and 10.25%, respectively
Ruminal pH, ammonia nitrogen and total volatile fatty acids were in normal curve for all treatment lambs fed R3 had the lowest value (P<0.05) of NH3-N as compared with other ration , vegetation significantly (P<0.05) improved TVFA’s compared with other ration.
The best previous sprouted straws (SBS and SMS) were used as roughage in growing lambs ration in growth trial for 90 days. Results indicated that average daily gain and economic efficiency was significantly (p<0.05) improved with animals fed SBS or SMS rations being 213 and 227g,respectively compared with those fed control ration containing berseem hay.
It could be concluded that using sprouted barley- straw in animal feeding could be efficiently applied, particularly with small farmer, and may be participate in solving the pollution problem results from burning rice straw.
