Abstract This work is carried out to study possible ways of utilizing plants in ruminants’ feeding as a means of eliminating the serious hazard WH plants present to agriculture and navigation systems in Egypt. This is examined through a series of experiments during which the following is tested: 1) changes in chemical composition and possibly nutritive value of WH plants according to their location or season of harvesting, 2) utilization by ruminants of WH plants as silage (WHS), 3) utilization by ruminants of wh plants when processed as hay (WHH). An extensive description is given of nine experiments carried out to test the above mentioned three objectives. It can be concluded that it seems economical and more practical to process WH as hay. Morover results demonstrate clearly the possibility of further improvements in WH intake by urea inclusion or other chemical treatments including alkali treatment or both. |
