Abstract
This study aims to estimate the dry period length and to investigate factors affecting it in the Friesian cattle herd of the Tahreer province in Egypt. It at the determination of optimum length of dry period. The results obtained show that the shorter dry period is associated with an increase in the preceding lactation yield and a decrease in the following lactation yield. The optimum dry period length obtained in the present investigation in lactations bracketing the dry period.
