Abstract

The experiments were carried out on sweet pepper, cvs. Gracia and Lambada during the winter seasons of 9311994 and 9411995 in the Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Kafr El-Sheikh. The main objective of this research was to study the effect of two of seaweed extracts (0.1% Maxicrop and (0.1% Asco) and four shoots pruning treatments (one, two, three shootlplant and unpruned plants) on previous two cvs. The treatments were arranged in a split split-plot design with three replication. Cultivars were distributed randomly as a main plots, seaweed extracts and shoots pruning treatments were respectively. Pepper seeds were sown in the seedling trays filled with mixture of peatmoss -femculate (1: 1 vlv) on 1 August in the frst season and 15 August in the second one, the seedling were transplanted on 1 and 10 October at a density of 2.66 plantslm?- in both seasons. The pepper plants were sprayed with seaweed extracts (Maxicrop and Asco) as well as control (spray with the water) to the run-off three times starting at four weeks after transplanting, also shoots pruning treatment were conducted after the second spraying in both seasons. The experiments were conducted inside unheated plastic tunnels which were semi-circular profile structures with a frame work of rigid steel (6 m width, 45 m length and 2.5 m height) in the f~sstea sons and round arched tunnel commonly found in Egypt (8 m width, 45 length and 3 m height) in the second one, and clad with polyethylene covers (a uv stabilised PE with thckness 200 pm).
