Abstract Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common peripheral entrapment neuropathy. The aetiology is unknown in most cases and so the term idiopathic C.T.Sa was released.The aim of this work is to study the clinical and electrophysiological evaluation of local steroid injection and phonophoresis in treatment of cases of idiopathic C.T.S.This study was carried out on 47 hands of 40 patients with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome. Patients were selected from the out patients clinic of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department, Tanta University Hospitals.They were 39 females and 1 male. Their ages ranged from 24 to 60 years with a mean value of 40.53 years, bilateral involvement was in 7 hands, unilateral ilwolvement was in 33 hands (22 Right and 11 lefl).Ten healthy volunteers matched in age, sex and occupation were considered as a control group for the electrophysiological studies.All patients and controls were subjected to laboratory investigations including fasting blood sugar level (when nec,essary) . Plain X-ray was done for cervical spine and wrist region in some patients. |
