Abstract
The present study is mainly concerned with mechanical and mineral composition of the above mentioned dune belt that extends to the west of the Minya governorate between latitudes 28 7 n to 27 40. The dunes cover an area of about 300 km and occur in the form of two main chains: an eastern chain and a western one. According to the geomorphology and results of mechanical and mineral analysis an attempt is made to give the sediment logical history and the source rocks of the studied sand – dunes.
