Abstract Argon laser is the most famous type of lasers. Argon laser radiation was generated by incidence of photons on an activated argon gas atoms. Activation was achieved by increasing the gas temperature to a certain degree. The resulting radiation are in the same wave length and coherence. Retinal pigment epithelium and haemoglobin absorbe argon laser irradiation very well. So. Argon laser has a great effect on differ(nt diseases of the retina and blood vessels. It is effective in any part of the retina except the macula In macular diseases. argon las’ar usage as a contraindicated. Krypton laser has an advantage situation. Argon laser irradiation was effective in anterior and segments of the eye. We deal now with anterior diseases. Argon laser decreases the postoperative recurrence rate of the pterygium. put it can be used from th2 s~art as a treatment of pte~ium At the cornea. it can photocoagulate penetrating neovessels which result from different corneal diseases or after keratoplasty. Argon laser can eliminate retrocorneal plaque. Vitreous band which is attached to corneal wound can be cut by argon laser Argon laser has a great role in treatment of different types of glaucoma. It can treat primary type (acute or chronic) or secondary type, even malignant type.It has a prophylactic role to prevent neovascular glaucoma. It can also reopen occluded filteration fistulae. whole was in this posterior segment Argon laser can cut the posterior synaechiae. It reforms updrown pupil to be centralized. If the sphincter of the iris was fibrosed by long usage of miotics. Argon laser can dilate the pupil and improve visual acuity. It can treat iris and ciliary body cysts. IridocycIitic membrane can be photocoagulated by argon laser before surgical incision to avoid bleeding . Cyclodialysis cleft can also be treated by argon laser photocoagulation to avoid the hypotony. Complications of argon laser are very little.as local lens opacities. temporary iridocyclitis and temporary increase in intraocular pressure. The complications are easy to control. |
