Abstract This work Included a comparative study of plasma concentrations of antithrombin Ill, the main physiological InhibItor of blood ccagulation, in both normal pregnant (study group) and normal non-pregnant women Icontrol Qroup). We aimed at fihdlng if there 15 any major alterations in AT III values during normal pregnancy. C~ses selected In this stud~ were known to have neither previous or current disease, familial or acquired, that May affect the AT III 1~ve15, ncr any drug intake that gay alter the haernostatia m~ohani~m. Our normal pre9nant cases ¢onslste~ or 3) normal healthy primigrAvidae In their late weeks of gestation (36th - 40th weeks) where any doubtful cases wit~ antepartum haemcrrhag~, toxaemlas or ~~egn~nc) (pregnancy-induced hypertensIon) and 91u~osurla were eKcluded. The normal control group consisted of 34 non-p~e~nant nuliipArA of the same age group. Radial immunodirrU51o~ te~hnique (R.l.O.1 ~as u~ed In this study for AT III a~say.
