Abstract

Reda Abd EI-Rahman El-sayed, The effect of reducing the solar intensity on the greenhouse thermal performance under semi arid = climate conditions, Unpublished Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation, Ain Shams University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Engineering, 2005.
An experimental Liquid Radiation Filter Greenhouse (LRF’G) is designed, tested and compared with other system of covering and shading materials, such as single polyethylene layer (PE) and double wall polycarbonate 6mm thickness (PC). Three methods were tested: only covering materials, covering materials with 30% shading and covering materials with white wash 20g/m . The comparative criteria named transmissivity; internal air temperature; internal relative humidity; soil temperature; greenhouse-energy handling system and effect of greenhouse-covering material on cucumber seedling.
The obtained results at the peak day time showed that: Liquid Radiation Filter (LRF) reduced the solar radiation with 44.7% and the internal air temperature with 4.61% as compared with the outside climate factors. The transmissivity of the LRF was varied between 46.7 and 57.9%, and it was lower than the transmissivity of all treatments that were used except the PC with 30% shading.
