Abstract Hepatic tumors whether primary or secondary have different therapeutic modalities. In this thesis we highlight these modalities whether surgical, medical, radiotherapeutic or loco regional treatment. We focused first upon surgery, which is still the first line of therapy giving the best five year’s survival rate. Unfortunately not every patient is a candidate for surgery, which depends on various selection criteria based mainly on the ability of the liver to withstand the surgical procedure and the remnant liver to cope with body demands. Various factors affecting the prognosis include patient factors and surgical factors. Then we shifted to medical and radio therapeutic modalities, which are typical palliative measures incomparable to surgical outcome. Then a detailed description of the locoregional procedures was discussed classifying them into two major groups the physical and chemical arms. The chemical group includes chemoembolisation and local injection of alcohol, hot saline and acetic acid. Physical group includes laser, microwave and cryosurgery. |
