Abstract Cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) affects ~2.5% of children less than 3 years of age(Vassella, 1992). Symptoms of CMPA involve skin, respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. About one half of these reactions are mediated by specific IgE antibodies towards proteins in cow’s milk (Wright, 1999). However no particular protein in cow’s milk has been identified as a ”major allergen”(Schade, 2000). Yet serum concentration of IgG anti-B-lacto globulin proved to be useful in diagnosis of gastro-esophageal reflux disease(GERD) secondary to CMPA(Saarinen, 1999). GERD may be 1ry or 2ry to other conditions. CMPA is one of the recognized causes of 2ry GERD but there are only few studies that tackled this association and proved that 30% of GERD cases were 2ry to CMPA(Jarvinen, 2000). Hypothesis: Gastro-esophageal reflux disease(GERD) and cow’s milk protein sensitivity enteropathy(CMPSE) are two common problems, that commonly occur in the same age group. A link was established between both problem, and the hypothesis is wether this link is statistically and/or clinically significant? |
