Abstract

The characteristic bond structure of organosilicon compounds is generally attributed to two facts: a./ The electronegativity of silicon is relatively small. b./ The d orbitals of silicon can participate in chemical bonds. According to numerous researchers, partial -bond (pr-d 3 bond) is formed between the vacsnt d orbitals of silicon and the p orbital of a neighbouring atom. This type of bond may occur in several organosilicon compounds, among others in silicon-oxygen and silicon-sulfur bond. At the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Technical University of Budapest the research work on organosilj-con compounds has been in progress since 1950, The research activity has included the investigation of bond and molecular structure of organosilicon compounds. My thesis is a part of the mentioned purposeful researche work and its aim is to study the silicon-calcogene bond, To investigat these bonds, five-, six- and seven-membered heterocyclic and spirocyclic compounds were prepared. The cyclic compounds are particularly interesting from the point of view of study of the molecular stmcture as because of the larger rigidity of rings, the number of conformation possibilities is smaller and they can easier be taken into consideration, There are relatively few papers concerning the structure of silicon-sulfur bond, the same can beosaid in connection with the molecular structure of heterocyclic compounds containing silicon-sulfur bond. To fill up the gaps in this field, my work was designed to consist of the following parts: After selecting and preparing model compounds containing Si-S, S-Si-S, S-Si-C bonds as well the corresponding compounds with silicone-oxygene bond, the molecular structure of the model compounds was investigated using the results of mass spectrometric, nuclear magnetic resonance and dipole moment measurements. The results of ultraviolet and infrared spectrophotometric investigations for the cyclic compounds were compared to those of the corresponding linear sulfur containing compounds. The molecular structure of heterocyclic compounds containing Si-S and Si-0 bonds was investigated by the following experimental methods: Idass spectrometry ’H-M~R spectroscopy ’~-C-NMR spectroscopy Dipolemoment measurements Infrared spectroscopy Ultraviolet, spectroscopy
