Abstract

air pollution, and water contamination have been investigated in the area of the Egyptian, Financial and Industrial company. The company is situated at Kafr El-Zaiyat, GHARBEIYA, beside the River Nile. It produces superphu..phate fertilizers and chemical materials. The choice of this :\rea was based on many aspects: I t is situated bzside inhabited buildings and cultivated lands, and its drains are injected inlo the Nile. - I t would be e>.pected to obtain results that indicate the presence of some pollutants in air as well as in the Nile water. - The probability of existence some diseases among the workers is acceptable since their number is so large, specifically in the heavily polluted places. - The company products are commonly used. In the present work, qualitative and comparison analysis for the measured elements were studied in many different locations. That is for air pollution and water contamination problems. Semiquantitative analysis using calibration curves was also studied for air pollution. Sample collection for each was based on a specific map according to certain environmental and measuring conditions which are defined to be fixed during the course of a11 mcasurcments, Air and wirtcr p:~rticulates were deposited on WIIATMAN 41 filter paper. Thc forrmr was collected using air sample collector. All samples were analyzed using the technique of energy-dispersive Tube Excited x-ray fluorescence Analysis, the so-called TEFA system. This technique was prefered because of the possibility of varying the x-ray energy for the elements of interest and their sensitive results due to its very low background effect. Following here are the results that we have obtained from data analysis of ~hesem easurements: - There is an accordance of pollution levels in the area of mills and packing sites with the abundance of the detected elements in both raw and product materials, resp!ctively. That is in accordance with the chemical addition in manufacturing, where each area is hardly affected by its local source of pollution.
